From Our Mailbag - "I Made the Varsity Squad - Thanks for All the Help"

Monday April 2, 2007
I received the following email from a young woman named Kate: "I am going to be a freshman next year. I have had a little experience with dance and never cheered before until junior high cheerleading. This year I decided to tryout for high school cheerleading. For 6 weeks I stretched, threw tons of jumps, read your posts and with all of my hard work I made VARSITY. They chose 13 varsity cheerleaders and 5 junior varsity cheerleaders and I made varsity out of 25 girls. My school is a small school 3A, but very competitive. I was so excited it really shows that a little hard work, a good attitude, and help from others can go a long way and eventually pay off. I just want to thank you for all the help I got from your Web site about everything. I'll keep reading the Web site for tips so I can improve and strengthen my weak spots. Thank you so much."

The reason I'm sharing this email is to let you know that Kate is right. Hard work, attitude and taking the time to research and study information on About.com Cheerleading can help you make the squad. I'm not taking the credit for Kate's success. She did the hard part. Her dedication and determination is what paid off, but there is help to be found on About.com Cheerleading. Whether it's my articles, quizzes, newsletters or another cheerleader helping you in the About Cheerleading forum, you'll find that by preparing early and giving it 100%, making the cheerleading squad will be within your reach.
