200,000 Cheerleaders at 2008 Beijing Olympics

Monday July 21, 2008
With help from the NFL New England Patriot's Cheerleaders, the Beijing Olympics will feature over 200,000 volunteer cheerleaders (the largest number in the history of the Olympics). And if all of them are not enough to lift the spectators' spirits, the Olympics organizers have also prepared 28 elite squads of young women chosen from a competition held nationwide and from cheerleading or dance institutes. The Beijing Organizing Committee for the Olympic Games (BOCOG) promises on its website that this elite group of 400 will perform "not only as cheerleaders, but also as dancers and acrobats." And they will be adding some "Chinese flair" to their routines with nanchucks, red flags and Asian music. Watch the 2008 Beijing Olympics and let us know what you think of the cheerleaders.
