Cheerleading the Most Dangerous Sport for Girls?

Monday June 29, 2009
All I can say is "wow" about the latest report released from the National Center for Catastrophic Sports Injury Research and how the mainstream media has labeled cheerleading the most dangerous sport. With headlines like, "Forget Football or Hockey - the Most Dangerous Sport is Cheerleading" and "Cheerleading Is America's Most Dangerous Sport" you'd think no one should be participating in the sport.

Of course, I'm not saying there isn't any danger in cheerleading and as I've said many times before even one injury in cheerleading is one too many, but is it really the most dangerous? You decide after reading my article and be sure to leave a comment below.

I’m glad you’ve pointed out the possible issues in the research.
responsible coaching and the recognition of cheerleading as a sport lessen the danger.

Pointing out the possibilities of getting hurt in cheer is 1 out of 10 because of the crazy stunts that they do are crazy. I know that because i am a cheerleader and I made it on elite. I did some crazy stunts as a flier. But it is so fun because being a flier getting tossed up in the air is SO FUN! You should check out on you tube rio linda elite 09′ and tell me if it is cool. Thank you

There would be less injuries if coaches were properly educated. Stunt and tumbling progressions should be closely followed. Fitness and conditioning should not be ignored. There are no short cuts in striving to accomplish your goal.

OK i have to say yes cheerleading is a sport where injuries happen often but I won’t say most dangerous. I do agree with Linda who commented on july2 that is coaches where more educated then their will be less mistakes in routines and then thats less injuries. Theres also no allstar squads counted in there because like i said more educated people so less injuries. I’m a cheerleader also I get hurt alot but It’s all apart of any sport.
