Make Spirit Flip Flops

By Valerie Ninemire, About.com

You may have seen these cute flip flops that are custom made in school or team colors. Well, now you can make your own pair. Great to do as a squad project this summer. See Photo.
Difficulty: Easy
Time Required: 30 - 40 minutes

Here's How:

  1. Cut the different colored fabric (school or team colors preferably) in strips approximately 5" long and 1/2" wide.
  2. Starting with your first color, tie the strips on the straps of the flip flop.
  3. Use a square knot or double knot to tie with.
  4. Alternate colors as you like.
  5. Trim any long strips or adjust the length of them all to suit the look you want.
  6. Wear and enjoy!

Tips:

  1. Use bias tape if it's available in your colors. It's already the perfect width and reasonably priced.
  2. Use solid colored flip flops if you can find them.
  3. Think about how the other colors will show up on the color of your flip flop before you buy them or the fabric.
  4. You can use the same strips of fabric to make a coordinating hair accessory.
  5. Great project to do with your whole squad to cut down on the cost of the fabric and have fun.

What You Need:

  • Plain Flip Flops
  • Fabric or Bias Tape
  • Scissors
  • Measuring Tape
