"Cheer Moms" are Extremely Special - They Support and Inspire

What is a "Cheer Mom?" She's the woman in the stands hollering, not for the football team, but for you, the Cheerleader. She makes sure you get to your practices, lessons, competitions, and games on time. She has your uniform cleaned, your shoes together, and your poms poms where you can find them. She's the one that says, "You can do it," when you're convinced you can't. She's the person that feels almost as nervous at tryouts as you do. She shares your excitement and enthusiasm on hearing good news and feels your disappointment when things go bad.

A "Cheer Mom" is your best friend, your coach, an advisor; she is someone that will listen when you want to talk and understand when you don't. She admires your good qualities and will overlook most of your bad ones. Above all else, she is your mother and she loves you.

It is not unusual to take the people that love us the most for granted. We come to expect their support without truly appreciating it. So, what better time is there than now to reflect on the many things your "Cheer Mom" does for you? Give her a hug, tell her you love her, and show your "Cheer Mom" how much she means to you!

Cheerleaders Talk About Their Moms

From: Richelle - New Brunswick, Canada
"My mom is definitely a cheer mom, even before she took over as coach for my last year, as our other coach went on maternity leave. My mother used to be a cheerleader, but as she likes to point out, it wasn't anything like today's cheerleading. I used to practice my try-out routines in front of her and do my jumps to see if my arms were flying back or not, and if they were, she would help me with that problem. My mom helped me get the position of MVP my second year, and Captain my third and fourth (this year) year. Although I am captain, it's not because my mother is coach, and everyone knows that, yet she's just a bit unconsciously tougher on me because she doesn't want it to seem like that's how I got my position, but I understand. If it weren't for cheerleading, my mother and I would have a lot of silences when we're together, not having anything common to talk about. Quite frankly, my mother could act like a drill sergeant towards me, and I wouldn't care, because all of my cheerleading successes I owe to her. I'm glad my mom is a cheer mom, I'm even more glad that I got her hooked on today's cheerleading. "I went to one competition just for support, but then Oh My God! did I ever get hooked. It's just a big rush, not only for my daughter, but for the audience as well!"

"My cheerleading mom is probably one of the most dedicated mothers out their. She sent letters out to almost everybody we knew to sponsor me for cheerleading this year, and I had the most money in my account. she also has went to every competition I've had and has always been their cheering me on and supporting me no matter if it was a local competition.. or a competition down in Florida. she also has her cheer mom pin which she always wears. I'm happy to have a mom who will always support me and will go wherever she needs to to support her only daughter..."

"I have to say my mom is the greatest. She is the only one who believed in me, and when I made it this year, she was there holding my hand when I read my name on the list of who made it. She has always supported me when I cheered, and I love her for it. When I thought it was time to quit, she pushed me on. Thanks for being my rock."

"My mom is the best cheer mom because she helps me improve on what I need to do. For example, if I was doing something wrong in cheerleading she would tell me and help me improve on it. She doesn't just go, good, excellent, etc., she tells me what I am doing wrong and she helps me do it right."
