Six hundred Cheerleaders from ten nations will be competing at the 12th annual British Cheerleading Association's International Cheerleading Championships, at Loughborough University July 27 to 30. There will be thirty-one squad organizations, around 80 teams, representing England, Finland, Denmark, Germany, Guernsey, Northern Ireland, Scotland, Sweden, the USA and Wales. The recent successes of British squads in Nashville, Myrtle Beach NC, and Bottrop Germany looks set to showcase a spirited exciting and close competition.
The continued growth of the Championships required a larger venue for 2001. Loughborough University has ideal facilities, central UK ease of access, plus room for future expansion.
Top judges from five major US Cheerleading organizations will be coming for the largest event of its kind in Europe. The four days will also include professional NFSHSA Coaches Safety Certification and Judges Certification courses, plus a disco party, coaches evening, and social highlights.
Friday starts with tryouts for the national display squad, Team Britain, Partner Stunts and Mascot divisions. Saturday is the British Championships. Qualifiers from Saturday compete with other nations in the Internationals on Sunday. Leading Instructors are coming from Texas to teach the training workshop on the Monday, which is free to all competitors. Spectators are welcome on Saturday and Sunday.
