'Twas the Night Before Nationals

Twas' the Night Before Nationals, and all through the Gym,
Every athlete was stuntin', jumpin' and tumblin'!
The bags were packed, with bows for their hair,
I n hopes that the title soon would be theirs.
They were tired and sore, They wanted to be in their beds,
With visions of trophies dancing in their heads.
A base with her wrist taped, And I with a brace,
Listening to our coaches say they want to see smiles on each face.
When from the top of a lib, I heard the coach yell,
"Pinch the Penny, Point your toe, or We won't score well!"
She knew we'd do great, as did we,
Everyone knew we'd score beautifully.
The motivation of the team and its fans alike,
were definetly what would perfect our pikes!
When what to my wandering eyes should appear,
but the perfect basket toss was in gear!
With height, and grace, and a perfect toe-touch,
everyone in the room came to a hush.
Then we repeated our routine, 3 times without flaw,
and still everyone watched in awe.
"Now Smile, Have Fun, You ARE #1!
Be sharp, be stiff, and ace those lifts!"
our coach prepared us for the day we had waited for so long,
And soon, we'd be on the mat and they'd be playing our song!
As they announced the teams, one by one,
they entered the mat with excitement and fun.
Some left in tears, Some left in smiles,
knowing that only a few would make it to finals.
We entered the mat, for the first time in Prelims,
"Just remember what we practiced at the gym!"
We did it, our score made it, now just for the next part,
If only our finals routine will look this smart!
They call our name, we enter with spirit and power,
Our 2 and a half minute routine will feel like 2 and a half hours!
We know we can do it, We've worked hard for this,
Please God, let us win it!
Our toe-touches gorgeous, Our tumbling runs awesome,
Our Arabesque full downs were perfect and then some!
Our Faces decorated with smiles, not to mention lipstick,
And for once our toes were pointed in all of our kicks!
Finally, the routine was over, nothing we can do now but wait,
Now I am glad last nights practice was so late!
Other teams went by, enthusiastic as us,
They all practiced so hard, at this point its just luck.
After what seemed like forever, it was over and done,
The judges trying to figure out who was truely Number one.
They took the stage, the annouced 3rd and second places,
When they said we had won, you should have seen our faces!
