And now a word from the coaches regarding the same topic. All are head coaches except for Brianne Milo who helps out on a part time basis at Fordham. Interestingly Fordham's head coach Doreen Franquinha and her associate Brianne, were co-captains on the Fordham squad just two years ago. Obviously, they can relate to tryouts from recent experience. An added angle is provided by the two Rutgers coaches . Chris Zoffinger addresses preparing for cheerleading tryouts while Emily O'Connell discusses dance team tryouts.

College Coaches' Advice:

Tori Chiappa
Iona College
"You should be neat have everything together. Know what type of tryout it is. Are you trying to make a program that will compete in competitions (as Iona will next year). You can get ready physically by working out and taking a tumbling class and eat right. Stay away from too much McDonald's."

Doreen Franquinha
Fordham University
"You have to know stunting but having a good dance background is big in a lot of what we (at Fordham) do. Be in good shape and perform with a smile showing you want to be out there. If you don't love it others can read that. Smile and be confident."

Brianne Milo
Part-time assistant Fordham University
"Have the attitude that you want to be there and be in shape to meet the physical demands. Know your moves and stunts."

Emily O'Connell
Rutgers University (on dance tryouts)
"Appearance, confidence and all-around presence are important. Don't expect to know everything perfectly (in a tryout) but show the ability to perform after learning."

Christine Hoffzinger
Rutgers University (on cheering)
"Need to practice tumbling and all around stunts. With tumbling we don't expect you to know everything but potential is important. Attitude is also an important point."

Darlene Comacho
Manhattan College
"Arrive at the tryouts with neat, clean clothing that fits you well. The technical aspects are very important naturally but you also can't afford to be shy. You have to be able to use your voice and shout in tryouts."
