When I first learned of SpiritU I was fascinated by the concept and intrigued by the idea. I thought to myself, what kind of person would put all this effort into the education of Cheerleaders, coaches, and advisors and make it so convenient and reasonably priced?

Well, I recently had an opportunity to interview Leslie Goettsch, owner and founder of SpiritU™, and I can tell you what kind of person she is. Leslie has an impressive background in the field of dance, she is well educated and appears to set very high standards for herself. All of these are the same qualities she looks for in her instructors and the students at SpiritU™.

When Leslie start SpiritU™ in 1999, she realized that many coaches, advisors, directors and Cheerleaders did not have the time or money to attend the typical cheer/dance clinics, camps, or conventions. At the same time, she was constantly being barraged with pleas for advice and help on various cheer/dance topics; also, she just happened to be taking an online class in computers herself. As Leslie puts it, "I loved the convenience of being able to take it (class) at home, not to mention the low cost. It was wonderful not having to pay room and board too!" and she added, "Finally, I get a lot of emails from people who live abroad and want to learn more about Cheerleading in the US, so they can learn how to start cheer squads abroad. So I decided that online classes was something worth trying; thinking that there were a lot of people it could potentially benefit." And so, SpiritU™ was born.
