Meet One of Football's Fabulous Females
I recently had the opportunity to interview one of Pro Football's most talented Cheerleaders, Rolleen Myers of the Oakland Raiderettes. Rolleen, in her eighth year as a Professional Cheerleader, took time from her busy schedule to answer some questions, give some advice, and share some of her Cheerleading experiences.
The Interview
Cheerleading Guide: When
did you start your Cheerleading career?
Rolleen: I started Cheerleading with the San
Francisco 49er's Gold Rush in the 1991-1992 season. I was 20 years old with
a lot of dance experience, but never had been a Cheerleader in school. In fact,
I had never even been to a High School or Pro
football game, prior to my debut on the side lines.
Cheerleading Guide: What do you consider
the best part about being a Cheerleader?
Rolleen: The best part is
the Pride one feels while representing and being a part of a team. The camaraderie,
the many people you meet, the sweat and commitment, the sine and losses, the
smile on a die hard fans face, the chance to help and inspire within your community,
and 60,000+ screaming fans are all part of being a team. The better the team
the better the individual experience will be.
Cheerleading Guide: What is the worse part?
Rolleen: The
worst part is the misconceptions the public has about Pro Cheerleaders. We are
stereotyped. The general public does not realize that most of us are College
graduates, College students, Business owners, and Professional Businesswomen.
Cheerleading Guide: How much practicing
is involved in being a Pro Cheerleader?
Rolleen: We
have scheduled practices 3 days a week equaling approximately 10 hrs. That doesn't
include the time spent on your own going over the many routines that you have
learned.
