This how to was developed to answer a question from a reader about caring for carpet-bonded foam mats. She had a number of young cheerleading squads using them and wanted to keep them sanitized and clean. Caring for carpet bonded foam mats is easy and should be done on a regular basis. Special thanks to Stacy Finnerty with Tumbl Trak for her assistance in writing these instructions.
Difficulty: Average
Time Required: 30 Minutes to 1 Hour

Here's How:

  1. To freshen up: Sprinkle the mat with powder carpet deodorizer following directions. Then vacuum throroughly.
  2. For deeper clean: Use a commercial grade steam cleaner following the directions on the product, but do not use soap with this method.
  3. To sanitize: Use 2 ozs of color safe bleach with 1 gallon of water (test on a small area first before spraying on entire floor). Spray on the carpet only and let stand 10 minutes before using a dry vac. Or you can let the color safe bleach/water mixture dry overnight and use a regular vacuum to get rid of the bleach residue.

What You Need

  • Spray Carpet Deodorizer
  • Commercial Grade Steam Cleaner
  • Color Safe Bleach
  • Water
  • Shop Vac or Dry Vac
