| A poem written as a dedication to her high school squad after nailing their first college stunt. By Lisa Parrott. |
Lion Pride

We feel it rise
within us as to center court we gaze,
Determination
overtakes us as our eyes with excitement blaze.
We have worked
so hard in practice. We are ready now to cheer.
Though practices
were long and hard, we've made it now - We're finally here.
"The harder
you work for achievement", Coach said, "the sweeter the success"
As we overcame
each obstacle we worked hard to do our best!
Our five minute
dance was perfection, the school's first college stunt we nailed!
We all put
our talents to the test and no one can say we failed!
Our hearts are
full of confidence and in our minds we know no fear,
For the moment
we became a cheerleader our challenge became clear.
Something cried
out from deep inside
something no one else could hear.
Though we
complained at first, as our practice time grew longer,
We then learned
dedication and through discipline became stronger.
With loyalty to
our coaches came the respect of our peers,
Which further led to a dedicated crowd and their loud, spirit-filled cheers.
Such a chain reaction
of achievements can only occur,
When hard
work and discipline we learn to endure.
As we've learned,
real achievement is to reach beyond our own limitations
And find
nothing, but success and total gratification.
The colors represented
here, the Red, Gold and White
Are what
gives us our motive- to do our best not in other's eyes, but God's sight!
The color Red reminds
us to STOP and think before each move we make,
Before we
climb that stunt or dance a step, before each jump we take.
Gold reminds us
of awards yet to come, of a victors crown,
And the pride
in knowing we did our best -and that our coach was not let down.
White reminds us
of a new beginning of a slate wiped clean as white as snow.
Knowing that
the past mistakes we've made yield only an opportunity to grow.
This overwhelming
feeling within is hard to explain though we've really tried
.
You see, to understand the heart of these cheerleaders
-you'll have to understand their Lion Pride!
