"OK ... as we live in Scotland (the land of hardly any Cheerleading) , not a single person on our squad has ever spoken to, yet alone met, a real cheerleader."

Our About Cheerleading forum is always chocked full of the usual Cheerleading questions - "How do I jump higher?" "Should I loose weight?" "Help me with tryouts". Time and again Cheerleaders and coaches jump in to answer these questions and lend their advice, suggestions and tips. Cheerleaders not only love what they do; they love to teach and help others learn more about Cheerleading. Cheerleaders helping Cheerleaders is a big part of their spirit.

Lately there have been posts from Cheerleaders in Scotland, Ireland and England seeking help with their new squads and wanting advice on how to start out. The questions can range from a simple "Where do we get uniforms?" to "How do we raise money?" But always the underlying message is clear, beginning squads look up to the more experienced ones. And so the idea for "Adopt a Cheerleading Squad" was born.

If your squad has some experience and you have a little time to help a beginning squad, then this program is for you. What do you get out of all this? Well, besides the fact that you'll be helping, you'll get the opportunity to meet other Cheerleaders from around the world. Share your knowledge, learn a bit about their culture, and perhaps make some lifelong friendships.

How it Will Work:

  • Your squad can sign-up to either be adopted or adopt another squad.
  • You'll agree to exchange email addresses with the other squad.
  • I'll look over the applications and try to match up the squads. Then I'll notify each of them.

That's basically it, from that point on you'll correspond with the other squad via email. You can share ideas, talk about competitions, camps, your first games, anything you want. Ask questions, answer questions, offer support and guidance, but above all else, have fun and meet Cheerleaders from another part of the world.

Come on and join our Adopt a Squad program, it doesn't cost anything but your time and you'll be continuing the tradition of Cheerleaders helping Cheerleaders. See our list of who's helping whom.
